Free Benefit Concert to Support Camas Performing Arts!!
Come and Former Camasonian Steve Zegree will present a benefit concert
on January 10, 2010 to honor CPAS’s 25 years of bringing great
musical entertainment into Camas specifically and Clark County generally.
Steve is currently the Bobby McFerrin Professor of Music at Western
Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he teaches classical
and jazz piano; directs Gold Company, an internationally recognized
jazz vocal ensemble; and performs as pianist with the Western Jazz Quartet,
the resident faculty jazz ensemble in the School of Music. Steve has
appeared as pianist, conductor, clinician and adjudicator on five continents.
As a Renowned educator, his students are among today’s leaders
in jazz and pop performance, Broadway, recording studio production,
writing, arranging, singing and musical production.
The Gold Company Program at Western Michigan University is recognized
as one of the most successful and prestigious collegiate vocal jazz
programs in the world. Gold Company combines the fundamental musical
elements from the traditional choral style with stylistic characteristics
from the jazz vernacular with emphasis on improvisation and swing. Gold
Company has performed with guest artists including Bobby McFerrin, Janis
Siegel, Rosemary Clooney, The Manhattan Transfer and many more. Gold
Company has had the honor of performing arrangements specifically written
for the group by such talents as Fred Hersch, Gene Puerling, Clare Fisher,
Damon Meader and many more.
Intermission refreshments (beverages and cookies)
are generously provided by the
Camas-Washougal Chapter of Soroptimists International.
All donations received by the Soroptimists are returned to the Camas-Washougal
area in the form of grants to women in need or woman who make an outstanding
contribution to the local community.
